Kyle Butt, Dan Barker existence of God debate live webcast
I have posted some observations after watching the debate here.
The debate between Christian apologist Kyle Butt and atheist Dan Barker will be broadcast live on the internet on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 6 p.m. Central. Barker will affirm the proposition, “I know that the God of the Bible does not exist,” and Butt will deny. A third party provider is broadcasting the debate. Here is the embedded video, so our readers can watch here on the7ones.com. To watch the debate, click the arrow on the video below at start time.

[...] UPDATE HERE [...]
Kyle: Followup your excellent points on morality being absolute by asking Dan if it would be right to not only rape, but also murder the person(s) involved in his Save the World of humans scenario. Then ask him would he rape and then murder his own daughter or wife in order to save mankind.
We were not able to listen to the debate due to the sound being all but non existant. Sad. Hope it was recorded or put on video.
Richard,
I understand that World Video Bible School will have a DVD shortly after the debate. If I find a link to a recorded version on the internet, I will post it here on my site for you.
God bless you.
Matt
Terry,
That issue of morality and the foundation of ethics is impossible for an atheist to get past.
Good to see you, brother. Thanks for visiting.
Matt
Good job Kyle!
You represented yourself and Christains all over world in admirable fashion. I thank God for giving you the courage, knowledge and wisdom to participate in such a forum.
Mr. Barker seems like a descent, but misguided individual. It is my hope that he accepts Jesus Christ into his heart before it is everlasting too late!
I agree with Wayne. I am also very proud of you Kyle, and more importantly, glad that God was truely glorified! I would like to briefly comment on the contradiction made by Dan in terms of morality. In the beginning of the debate, Dan thanked Kyle for pointing out that TRUTH is not proven by MAJORITY RULE. But later, when Kyle questioned Dan if the physician in the “appendix removal” example was moral in his thought, Dan’s response is that the physician was not moral because there are “ENOUGH” of us here who can “determine” that he is immoral. His judgement about morality is being based on majority rule! I realize that I am interchanging truth with morality in the above statement (appropriately I think), but did anyone else hear the inconsistency there?
Hey man,
I was at the debate. I would say 2/3 maybe even 3/4 of the people in the room were Christian. Just to confirm that.
However, here is my recap:
Both did well but I knew Kyle had him within 20 min of the debate. Kyle was prepared. Barker was not. Plain and simple. I wish yall could of been there because I saw fear in that mans eyes. He knew that he underestimated the truth. Barker did not know Kyle like we do in Montgomery. The people that were putting it on at USC (who were a group of Darwinist) thought that there was no way a seasoned debater could loose to a small time preacher. But they were wrong.
Both had logical fallicies in their arguments. However, Butt had less. I love how you pointed out the fallicies of the “contridictions” Barker stated on the opening statement. I am a Bible student in Montgomery and I could of gotten up there and debated those items. Moreover, I love how Barker stated that he did not appeal to the authority of the Bible but consistantly used Bible terms and phrases to prove his theories ( “House built on sand”) If the man says he thinks the Bible is untrue, and that he is looking for truth and nothing but the truth, why would you use a book that you deem to be untrue??? Barker is a logical fallicy unto himself
His point on Matthew taking his Gospel from the septuigent was so off base. Why would a Jew take a Greek translation to write his gospel ??? He knew the Hebrew pentateuch ( the first 5 books of the Old Testament) as a child from age 13. Why would he take a Greek translation over the original language????
I have more but I am saving it for a paper I am writing. Well written thoughts man. Keep it up.
Kyle, you did amazing. I am proud of you. We all are.
KC
KC,
Thanks for the confirmation on numbers, brother. I noticed that about Barker using truths from the word of God to try to make certain points, glad you reminded us of that.
Kyle did do a great job, and I am proud of him. Share you paper with us when you can, KC. Thanks again!
in Christ,
Matt

God bless you, Haley. Thanks for stopping by.

Matt, I spent nearly an hour of my life in writing that Feb 14th reply. I have more to say but am hesitant to spend anymore time with this medium if I don’t get fair and equal time. Please consider that as unjudgemental yet revealing.
Darrell Barker
Darrell,
See my reply to you on the other article comment section. Keep in mind this is not a public forum, but rather a private website, so “fair and equal time” is not something you’ll have a right to here.
If I give you fair and equal time, I’ll have to put your name on the web hosting bill!
Seriously though, see my other reply. I am a full time minister, full time father, and part time grad student, so time is at a premium for me. When I can fit a reply to your post into my day, I will approve your comment.
Thanks!
Matt
I would like to view the debate. Is it possible to view now on the internet?
Cathy,
Hello, thanks for coming by.
Yes, the debate may still be viewed on the internet. Here is link:

The DVD should be available in the next week or two. Thanks!
Matt
Is there a place that I can just download the audio? I like to listen to debates on my way to work.
Wade,
I have not heard of an audio version at all. Sorry I’m not help on this one.
God bless you,
Matt
The DVD is available now at Apologetics press and World Video Bible School. This is not the same audio and video that was on the internet. The DVD is a multi camera production with much better audio as well.

Mat,
Thanks for the update. I ordered mine 2-3 weeks ago, and got it the other day. Very good work.
May God continue to bless you in your excellent work for the kingdom.

Being a 16 yr old christian is often tough, and this debate, and the things said, mainly by Dan, were somewhat disturbing to our entire teenage class. That was until Kyle responded to what Dan said. Kyle’s response made us feel better about our beliefs, and helped us get more insight on the atheistic persepective. Our youth group leader said that he thought that he might have us do our own debate, like Dan and Kyle’s, and when questioned with ‘why would a bunch of christians debate that the God of the Bible doesn’t exist’ he responded that it would help us understand the other side, and give us more confidence in why we believe what we believe.
The whole debate was very interesting, and I appreciate all that Kyle does!
