Another intriguing similarity between Hebrews and Luke-Acts is the fact that the author's name is omitted.

Richard,

Very true. Barnabas would have been more likely to speak in that way, than would Paul. However, it is also possible Paul was using a collective figure of speak, as he did in other places in his writings. See the article for more on this.

Thanks!

You ask if Barnabas would have described his learning of the Gospel in terms of Hebrews 2:3. He's certainly more likely to do so than Paul, given the fact that he actually knew Jesus and was one of the original group of Christians in Jerusalem.

Mike,

I can honestly say that I have never considered Peter, mostly because I have not read any literature that suggests him as a possibility. I am sure there is some out there somewhere, though. I recently spoke with a brother in the lobby following a Bible class that mentioned he thought Peter may have written Hebrews.

Thanks Mike!

Matt,

If you'll look at the style of writing as well as the many phrases used in 1st and 2nd Peter, and compare them to the Hebrew letter, you'll find a striking similarity between them. This leads me to believe that Peter could have been the author of Hebrews.

Also, since Peter was crucified upside down at his own request (according to the historian, Origen) because he deemed himself unworthy to be put to death in the same manner as Christ, it is possible that Peter would not have signed his name to the book - because he felt unworthy to do so.

My two cents worth.
