QUESTION: “Why do Christians always try to convert me to their religion?”

ANSWER: Thank you for your question. There are several reasons, really. Below are three of these reasons.

First, Christians try to convert you because we are commanded to teach others. In Matt. 28:19-20, Jesus said:

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

Second, Christians try to convert others because we understand the reality of the judgment to come, and want you to avoid the judgment of God.

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest to God; and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences. — 2 Cor. 5:10-11

And third, knowing this fear, we are told to have mercy on those who are doubting, and pull some as if from the fire:

And have mercy on some, who are doubting; save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh. — Jude 1:22-23

Bottom line, we do it because we love the souls of men, as Christ loves us.

So don’t feel offended when someone tries to talk to you about Christ. You should feel honored that they love you enough to be concerned for you!
