Dobson: ‘I don’t think he’s a Christian’

Apparently, Dr. James Dobson is an authority on who is a Christian, and who isn’t. At least, that’s what he seems to imply in a U.S. News article in reference to potential conservative presidential candidates.Sadly, the founder of Focus on the Family seems to disagree with the Bible on what makes a Christian. Dobson says he doesn’t get the impression that former Sen. Fred Thompson is a Christian because “has never known Thompson to be a committed Christian—someone who talks openly about his faith.”

Pope says hell is real

Speaking to a crowd in a northern suburb of Rome, the pope has attempted to remind his followers that hell is a real. The story is here.

Notice at the end of the story, it is stated that the pope said in October that “limbo” was only a “theological hypothesis,” and not a “definitive truth of the faith.” Does that mean no more purgatory for Catholicism?

‘Calling upon angels’

On the Beliefnet.com website, the leading story today is called “Finding Your Angels.” Presented on this page are three “meditations” by author Doreen Virtue helping you to call on your guardian angel, relieve strees with the archangel Michael, and promote healing with the angel Raphael.

Far and away from biblical truth, these “meditations” sound more like prayers to angels. For instance, the transcript of the “stress relieving meditation” encourages the reader or listener to “call upon the Archangel Michael,” saying “please come to us now.” The author then encourages folks to ask Michael to clear them of unforgiveness, anger, and the like.

A case of the “got to’s”

Have you ever come down with a case of the “got to’s?” It is a horrible illness. It is characterized by symptoms like forgetting there are other people around you (self-centeredness), profuse sweating and fatigue (from running here and there), and constant statements of “I’ve got to do this!” and “I’ve got to do that!” This disease is widespread, and very contagious. If allowed to run rampant for a long time, it can certainly harm the body, but more importantly, even over a very short time it damages the spirit!

A life of sacrifice

One Sunday during worship services, the collection plate came around to a little girl, who promptly took the plate out into the aisle, placed it on the floor, and stood in it. One of the bewildered servers approached her and said, “What are you doing?” The little girl responded, “In Bible class I learned that […]

Handprints aren’t so bad, after all…

The bags were packed, goodbye’s were said, and the children were excited as they prepared to go with their grandparents for a few days to Tennessee. My wife and I do not take a lot of overnight trips where we’ll be apart, but on this occasion she and the kids had an opportunity to spend […]

How do we love God? Let us count the ways…

Author C.S. Lewis once said, “On the whole, God’s love for us is a much safer subject to think about than our love for Him.” Does this statement ring true? After all, it’s a whole lot easier to depend and trust in the fact that God loves us, than it is for Him to depend […]

Let God be found true

You have no doubt heard the story about the husband and wife who were engaged in a dispute over who would get up early and brew the coffee. The husband claimed that it was the woman’s duty. The wife, however, said it was the man’s duty. And furthermore, she said, the Bible clearly says it’s […]

Consider yourself served!

Have you ever stopped to think of how important God considers His church? Consider this: In Matthew 16:18, Jesus said that He would build His church. In Acts 20:28, we read that Jesus purchased the church (His church) with His own blood. In Colossians 1:18 we learn that the body of Christ is the church, […]

Reversal of Fortune

by Matt Clifton
Matthew 19:16 – 20:16; 20:20-28
In general, we love to obtain. It seems completely against human nature to give up property. In fact, one of the world’s benchmarks for judging a successful life is how much property and possessions he or she owns.
